This trap does not convert oxygen into another contaminant; it actually removes oxygen. Oxygen and many oxides react with the activated filler to form manganese oxide. As a result of this reaction, the indicator gradually changes from a light green color, indicating the activity of the adsorbent, to a dark brown color, indicating oxygen saturation. This indicator oxygen trap is designed to be used in conjunction with a large-capacity oxygen trap that does not have an indicator. Therefore, this indicator-equipped oxygen trap is typically installed downstream of the trap without an indicator. By doing so, the contamination can be visibly confirmed in the indicator oxygen trap before it reaches the equipment. Agilent's indicator material does not undergo exothermic reactions when exposed to air or water.
